The Baixo Corgo ("Lower Corgo") is the area furthest to the west, spanning approximately from Régua to a tributary called Corgo. It is joined to the east by the Cima Corgo ("Upper Corgo") area that includes the town of Pinhấo. The area to the east of Pinhấo to Barca d’Alva is referred to as Douro Superior ("Upper Douro")
