Their passion for the land and for wine led the Lamas family to make an attempt at producing it. In order to achieve this, they always opted for excellence and rigour in all the details related to its production.
The decision to plant vines at Quinta das Bajancas was made in 1993, after performing studies on which varieties are the most suitable for the location's edaphic and climatic conditions. After the study was carried out, we chose the varieties of Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Tinta Francisca and Tinta Amarela for red wines and Rabigato, Gouveio, Malvasia Fina and Códega do Larinho for white wines.
The first replantation then took place on a plot of 4 hectares halfway up a slope facing the south with known potentials, called "Bajancas". The vines were planted in the beginning of 1994 and a decision was made not to produce and bottle any quantities for ten years in order to privilege only the plant's vegetative development.
In 2000, the second phase of replanting the vines was underway on another 8 hectares with the varieties of Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Barroca, Touriga Franca and Tinta Francisca. Thereby, Quinta das Bajancas' vineyards extended over a total area of 12 hectares.
We then decided in 2004 to produce our first wine and, because we believed that technical knowledge is absolutely decisive for achieving the set goals, we formed a partnership with 2PR, an oenology company. Like us, this company always opts for excellence and rigour in all the details from the wine's production to its commercialisation.
The estate has the capacity to produce up to 48,000 bottles (750 ml), 41,000 of red wine and 7,000 of white wine, of a wine that has come to be called Vinho de Quinta, which means that the estate can only produce and bottle its own wines.
